Even simple legal matters can be overwhelming and confusing. Here are a few questions we get often.
Do I need a lawyer for a simple speeding ticket?
You can always prepay the fine, but that may result in DMV points against you and may negatively affect your auto insurance rates. Additional problems may arise for those who drive for a living or who are provided vehicles by their employer. Some out-of-state residents might find their home state DMV suspends their license because of a speeding ticket in Virginia, depending on the speed. Many times Trible Law Offices can successfully argue speeding reductions, driving school referrals with dismissals and even outright dismissals.
I have a CDL (commercial driver’s license) and a perfect record, can’t I just go to driving school?
No. Virginia does not allow driving school referrals for CDL drivers. A lot of negative publicity has been given to big truck drivers. Trible Law Offices is experienced in assisting CDL drivers with positive outcomes.
Do I have to come to court for my traffic matter?
Many folks live out-of-state, out of the area or cannot get to court on a particular day. Depending on the nature of the charge, Trible Law Offices can make the appearance on your behalf and you don’t have to come to court. Trible Law Offices can negotiate or try the case for you.
Can you guarantee the outcome of my case?
Any lawyer that tells you they can guarantee anything is not telling you the truth. Every case and traffic stop is different. Experience pays when it comes to determining some possible outcomes. Having a local attorney is helpful in knowing the ways of the local courts.
Well, thanks for the information, but I think I am going to represent myself. What do you think about that?
I would always advise to plead “not guilty” as that is your right. It is up to the government to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that you are guilty, even if you think you are guilty. You have a right not to incriminate yourself. Of course, as the saying goes, “A man who is his own lawyer has a fool for a client.”
